The Beat Suite E-Commerce WebsiteThe Beat Suite is a hugely ambitious e-commerce website developed for the North East's leading royalty-free music library, selling and licensing high quality production music and sound effects to multimedia developers and digital content creators all over the World.
The website was designed to be extremely simple and intuitive to use, allowing busy design professionals to find and purchase the very best music quickly and efficiently, concealing beneath the surface a mammoth content and product management system.
When I was first commissioned by managing director Steve Bainbridge to design a completely bespoke e-commerce website, the Beat Suite was very much in its infancy as a local SME, writing and recording bespoke music for multimedia developers across the North East, but he felt that the Beat Suite had only just scraped the surface of its market potential.

The Beat Suite was much more than just a website design project, covering every aspect of online business from Search Engine Optimisation to the identification and analysis of potential new markets.
In addition to the provision of seemless music previewing and purchasing for a very particular target audience, the Beat Suite required a complete brand overhaul in order to create the illusion of size. If the Beat Suite was to grow beyond its locality and have any impact on the international market place, it had to give the right impression. The Beat Suite library was going to be a formidable beast beneath the surface, and to conceal that complexity from the end-user called for some deft engineering.
To take on the mammoth task of programming the enormous back-end, I brought in local developers NE-Web, who created for us an extremely complex and completely scalable cataloguing system that would be able to take the strain of the Beat Suite's immense collection of production music. With more and more composers flocking to the site everyday in search of distribution, the Beat Suite music library was about to take root and grow very quickly, and the website would have to grow along with it.

In October 2005 the website won the Best Use of Broadband category in the North East E-Commerce Awards, receiving commendations in a further two categories.
